politechnicomilanoDaryl Powell, the Lean Program Manager at Kongsberg Maritime Subsea, presented a seminar on Lean Management in engineer-to-order manufacturing at the Polytechnic University of Milan on January 19th. Lean production has become widely used in markets that offer high volumes of low variety products. Using lean management principles in companies which produce customer-specific products in low volume has received increased attention in research. This type of research is especially important for companies operating in high-cost countries, such as Norway. Powell presented the research activities currently being carried out by Kongsberg Maritime Subsea together with NTNU and SINTEF. Results from a €3.2M, three year project, SoundChain, were presented regarding effective concepts for production of subsea acoustic sensor systems in Norway.
